*On Saturday night, November 15, four students from Pacific Union College were killed in an automobile accident involving three cars on the mountain roads of Deer Park, Angwin.  The student’s names are:  Boaz Pak 20, Luke Nishikawa, 22, Simon Son, 19, and Chong Shin, 20.  Many of you may know some or all of these students and are grieving their loss.  I urge you to continue to pray for their families and friends who are mourning and ask God to bring them peace and comfort.  This weekend, SKSDA English Ministries will be clearing all afternoon and evening activities so that friends of the victims may attend the various memorial services.  As you finish reading this letter, pray with me the prayer that is found in 2 Timothy 1:12 when it says, “That is why I am suffering as I am.  Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.  God Bless Boaz, Luke, Simon, and Chong.

  • Luke Kotaro Nishikawa's funeral service will be held at Mt. View Japanese Church on Saturday.
  • Chong Whon Shin's funeral service will be held in Oregon on Thursday.
  • Simon Chulmin Son's memorial service will be held at the Napa Korean Church on Wednesday night.
  • Boaz Joshua Pak's  service will be held at the Rohnert Park Korean Church on Saturday.

There will be a memorial service of all four of the students at the PUC church at 10am on Thursday morning.

Town Hall Meeting Findings:

At our Town Hall Meeting last weekend, we heard a progress report from our Worship Ministry, Sabbath School Ministry, and Building Committee. We have yet to discuss the children’s ministry. Some of the findings and concerns from last week’s meetings are as follows:
  • Young Adult Sabbath School (10:00am) and Friday night or Mid-week Bible Studies
  • Children’s ministry coordinators and teachers
  • Junior class helpers
  • Young Adult and college ministry leaders and coordinators
  • English Ministry Deacons and Elders
The suggestion has been made that we should have two organized decision making bodies within the English Ministries. One made up of high school students (ASB) and another made up of single young adults and married young adults (EM Board). These two bodies can meet once every two months to discuss the issues at large in the English ministries and regularly plan for the advancement of each ministry department as well as coordinate a cooperative existence with the Korean Ministry. The members of the EM Board will be nominated and voted into power and the ASB will likewise be nominated and voted into power. The EM Pastor will act as a liaison to both bodies and to the Korean Ministry.
